Guatemala Historic Center Tour
Half day in Guatemala City!
Half day in Guatemala City
Walk in the historical center of Guatemala City and experience the historic and cultural richness of Guatemala’s capital city, established at the end of the XVIII century and actually the most important city of the country. Declared a National Patrimony, the Historical Center, that at the moment of its establishment was constructed based on the urbanistic style of the Spanish cities in the New World, has old houses and small buildings in neoclassic style as well as emblematic buildings such as the National Palace, now a museum, the Metropolitan Cathedral, that has priceless religious images, and the Centenary Park. At the Central Market, situated behind the Cathedral’s building, you will admire the colors and diversity of Guatemala’s traditional handcrafts.
Also at the Historical Center is located Guatemala’s High Relief Map, a unique architectonic piece built at the beginning of the twentieth century. This map represents tridimensional Guatemala’s territory showing the mountain chains, volcanoes, rivers, lakes, cities and frontiers in a 1/2000 scale. When it was built, the directors and engineers in charge travelled the country on mules to take the topographic data.
